Registration

It is completely free to register with udoku. No personal information beyond a username and password is asked of you.

Your email address is not required but if you do choose to enter your email then you will be able to receive notifications of new udokus and other updates to the website via email. If you choose not to give an email address at this point then you may add one to your profile later. Note that there are RSS feeds for udokus and for posts in the latest udoku and/or the udoku you are viewing, so if you have an RSS reader you may prefer to simply use that.

To register, use the registration form at /register. After that, go to the login form at /login to access your account and start using udoku.

Submitting an answer

Once you have logged in, you will be able to submit answers for udokus as well as view them. To submit an answer, simply click the cell of a udoku that you want to submit an answer for. Hovering over a cell will display its number.

Hovering over a udoku cell

When you click a cell, you will be asked to submit a number from 1-9 as your answer. If you clicked the wrong cell or clicked by accident, click 'Cancel' or 'No' (depending on your browser) to go back to the page. If you enter invalid data, this will be added to your error tally. Error tally? What's that?

Popup

If you are using Internet Explorer or just have a high security setting, you may be asked whether to allow udoku.org to display popups. Do not be put off by this: the popup in question is merely the form (as shown above) asking you to enter your answer. udoku.org will never display popup advertisements or ask you to download anything.

Uploading your image

If you've entered a correct answer for the cell you clicked, you should be shown a file upload form. This is how you upload your image.

Upload form

There are some requirements for your upload. For reference, these requirements are as follows:

Your image must be .jpg, .jpeg or .png format and be at least 640x480 pixels large (width x height). It is also recommended that your image has a 4:3 aspect ratio as udoku will automatically and indiscriminately crop your image to this ratio if it is a different shape. If half your face disappears from the image, that's not our fault! Also, the maximum filesize is 2.5Mb.

Viewing the result

If you are posting an image for the first time, it will not appear on the udoku immediately. As an anti-spam measure, because email addresses are not required for registration, an administrator must verify your account. You may vote on images and receive emails with an unverified account but images you post will not display until checked by admin.

Fortunately for you, assuming your image is relevant and within the restrictions placed in the terms of service, it does not take long for your image to become verified, as udoku administrators are active most of the day. Once your account has been verified, you will be able to post images directly to udokus without having to wait for admin.

Viewing your previous uploads

A history of all your uploaded images is viewable when you are logged in. This history can be found via the 'my uploads' link that appears in the menu when you are logged in.

If you have posted a lot of images they will be displayed in small groups on several pages. Your uploads are listed from your latest back to your first so you will be able to view your most recent images most easily.

Adding a description to your uploaded image

Via the previous uploads page (see just above) you can edit descriptions for your images. These are displayed in text boxes and you may easily edit any existing description - or add one if there wasn't one before - by entering it in the text box and clicking the 'Save desc.' button.

Voting/reporting

When you click an image in the udoku grid, or one of your own images in your history of uploads, you are given the option to vote on the image or report it.

Edit your profile

The five yellow/grey stars represent a rating out of five. If you have not yet voted on the image you are viewing, these will be greyed out until you roll over them. Simply clicking one of these stars will submit your vote. If you have already voted on the image, they will be inactive.

The sixth, crossed-out star reports an image. If you find an image offensive, upsetting or inappropriate in some way, use the report feature to submit a report directly to admin. Reports will be considered as soon as possible by an administrator, who will then decide whether to take action on the image. You will not be notified of any action taken.

You do not have to submit an explanation for your report, but doing so helps to inform the administrator's decision. Abuse of the report form - for instance flooding the reports list by mass reporting, or by putting offensive content in your report - will result in action being taken against your account as well as the image you have reported. Only use the report form if an image is genuinely problematic for you.
